Hi, I'm Elfiecakes
Elfiecakes is a name I made for myself when I was just 11 years old. It combines my real name, Effie, and what my dad would call me, babycakes. I thought that 'Effiecakes' sounded too strange so I modified it to be Elfiecakes. After the day I decided on Elfiecakes, I used it for EVERYTHING. I didn't intend it to sound like I am an elf but I guess that's how the cake crumbles. (get it?)

Ever since I was little I would watch my dad play games like Street-fighter and Final Fantasy XIV, so naturally I wanted to play video games too. I started by playing Mario Brothers, Viva Piñata, and Minecraft, and I now occasionally play Valorant and Osu. It's because of my gaming background that I play life as a game. I also find that video games could be very useful to language learning, as there are many video game related words that you learn by playing the game. People say life is a game, so then you should be able to learn through a game the same way you learn through life. I hope to integrate this into my future projects.
As of 2022 I began studying at the University of Kansas, learning Korean, and later Japanese on my way to being a polyglot. I am very interested in language, as well as how we learn it from different standpoints. As a native English speaker, I find it very difficult to learn languages like Korean or Japanese, but after only studying Korean for a year before starting to study Japanese, I found that there are many similarities between both languages. This is what fuels me to learn twenty or more languages, as I think the key to learning a language lies in-between knowing many languages.

I am so grateful to be chosen for the opportunity to teach English to Korean high schoolers! I am so curious about the school system in Korea, especially with language curriculum. I can't wait to explore Korea during the program as well! I will also be taking courses at Korea University the following fall, so I am super excited to start my journey!
